Why Green Juice & When You Should Drink It?

Our bodies are under the most consistent amount of stress and pollution than any other generation before us, causing inflammation and zapping our bodies of our much-needed energy

Welcome to the modern world where more than ever we need the healing power of foods to help negate some of this damage to our bodies. When we live a busy lifestyle, it's so tempting to reach for quick, short-term fixes such as alcohol, sugar and caffeine. But they are just adding to the problem! I say, “how about a simple green juice instead?” Adding a green juice or smoothie to your morning routine will provide you with both that instant pick-me-up, an abundance of antioxidants and lasting alkalizing energy.

Even those of us who think we’re eating well - eating our vegetables and carefully watching our sugar and gluten intake can use a little nutrient supplementation and green juices are a great way to get those vital nutrients.

Drinking a juice means you are gifting your body with a high alkaline, enzyme-rich, bio-available nutrient rich supplement which your body easily absorbs.

Plus, it’s a great way to give your digestive system a break from all that churning it needs to do!

You may ask “Why green juice?” Well, the green colour in vegetables comes from chlorophyll, which transports oxygen to our cells. I like to think of chlorophyll as liquefied sunshine! Plants harness the sun’s energy in photosynthesis, and we can cash in on all that powerful energy and vitality too when we ingest these plants. Especially because most of us spend a little too much time indoors, drinking green juice makes us feel more alive.

For the last 3 years I made a living from selling green juices from my café chain in London. It was no surprise to me that the most popular selling item on our menu was a green juice called the ‘Green Inversion’. For years, I witnessed Londoner’s embrace juice into their daily lives, opting for a pint of liquid greens instead of their morning coffee. If you haven’t made the switch yet, maybe its time to re-evaluate.

So, does it matter what time of day you should drink your juice? Lets be honest, a juice at anytime of the day is better than no juice at all. But the best time of day to have your juice is in the morning, on an empty stomach. This is when our stomachs are the most active and also able to fully digest and absorb the nutrients we give it.

A good note to remember is coffee, black and green tea are all caffeine containing drinks which means they are diuretics and will therefore flush our system of the water soluble vitamins and minerals that we lovingly put into them. So, to make sure we hold onto those healthy nutrients from our daily juice, make sure to drink your green juice at least 1 hour before your coffee.
